You should put lots of gel in your hair and shape it to be wavy-looking. The gel will make it look wet. Maybe see if you can find shell necklace to wrap around the top of your head. Rub glitter all over you to make it look like it's water that's glistening on you. You could take an eyeliner pencil and draw a design around your bellybutton like a simple fish or shell or anything like that. You can never overdo it at a party like that.
I dressed as a mermaid last halloween. For my hair, I went to the fabric store(you could go to Michaels too) and bought the ';eyelash'; knitting yarn in blue, green and turqoise. I also bought some plastic lanyard string in green. I cut several very long(some even down to my knees) pieces of the threads and tied them onto elastic hair ties. then I used temporary hair color in turquoise color. I put my hair in about 10 mini buns and attached the ';hair'; made from the threads. It really looked like seaweed but very cool.


For the costume, over the bikini top. I bought some real fish net(can buy it at michaels) and used some of my extra yarn from the hair to make it tie in the back and it looked like a halter top in the front.


I glued sequins on everything I could, used fabric paint to draw scales and put some blue glitter on my lips.

Typically mermaids have long wavy flowing hair.





I recommend if you have a curling iron to curl you hair in a few sections and then brushing it through for waves and then placing a flower near your ear.





Or you can buy a long hair wig from Party City or a party store.





And maybe you can cut out some fabric and shape them as shells and place them on your bathing suit top. As if the shells were bra.





For the face I would buy long Black eye lashes and pretty peach blush and peach colored lip gloss.

with your make up, i think it would be nice to have two different color shades of eye shadow try something aquaish for example green and orange or aqua blue etc. hope this helped.

Wet your hair, style with gel, and get it wavy to make it stay looking like you've been in the water. Green makeup - mermaids in make-up comercials are usually shown with sweeping, exotic, and over-done eye makeup. Highlight with blue and perhaps limited amounts of sparkles.
